Domestic-Violence Killings Of Women On the Rise

Murders of women at the hands of their spouses and partners increased during the first half of this year compared to the same period last year. Between January and June, there were 13 such homicides, four more than during the same period in 2007, according to the National Institute for Women (INAMU).

During 2007, 16 women were murdered by current or former partners. Since 2002, more than 35,000 cases of violent acts against women have been reported.

Each year, some 44,000 women request restraining orders from their husbands and partners citing domestic violence, according to INAMU.
