Politician Kills Cyclist, May Have Been Drunk

A Costa Rican lawmaker struck and killed a cyclist late last Saturday in Cariari de Pococí, in the Caribbean province of Limón.

Libertarian Movement party member Ovidio Agüero was driving his sister’s Toyota Land Cruiser about 2:15 a.m. when he hit 25-year-old banana picker Víctor Mauricio Arroyo, who died of head injuries, the daily La Nación reported.

Police say Agüero was driving while intoxicated.

In 1991, Agüero struck and killed a pedestrian but was not prosecuted, La Nación reported.
