Rural Community Tourism Fair Planned

THE National Biodiversity Institute’sINBioParque will host a fair showcasing50 businesses and organizations dedicatedto rural community tourism.The event, which will be the third ofits kind in the country, is scheduled forDec. 3, 4 and 5 at the nature park, locatedin Heredia north of San José, with thegoal of promoting rural Costa Ricantourism on a national and internationallevel.The executive director of the fair,Aitor Llodio, explained the fair seeks tostrengthen the image of rural tourism as asector that wants to cooperate in theefforts of different environmental organizations.“This year, we will have many activitiesand special guests. We invited manyinternational wholesalers and operators,as well as community tourism associationsfrom other Central American countries,”he said.The fair is organized by theCooperative Consortium, NationalEcotourism Net (COOPRENA R.L.),Costa Rican Association of RuralCommunity Tourism (ACTUAR), CostaRican Tourism Institute (ICT) and UnitedNations Development Program (UNDP).During the three-day fair, visitorscan enjoy a diversity of tourism offerings,crafts, typical foods and culturalactivities.Rural tourism protects the interests oftourism, the environment, and the localcommunity by exploring new methods ofusing the land, generating incomes andprotecting natural surroundings, accordingto a statement from the NationalCouncil of Labor Unions (CONACOOP).For information call 256-2791.
