Rectors Call for Holiday March Against Corruption

THE National Council of Rectors(CONARE) has called for a massivemarch against corruption on Tuesday, Díade las Culturas, a Costa Rican holidaysomewhat connected to Columbus Day inthe United States.The march is scheduled to begin at 9a.m. at Parque la Merced in San José topromote national dignity and institutionalizeddemocracy, according to a CONAREstatement.President Abel Pacheco has authorizedthe central administration to participate inthe morning march and urged autonomousinstitutions to do the same. The governmentearlier switched the Oct. 12 holidayfor government employees to Monday,Oct. 18, when most government officeswill be closed.THE U.S. Embassy in San José hasannounced it will be closed for ColumbusDay on Monday, Oct. 11.
