Rats Invade Three Limón Neighborhoods

FOR the past five months, residents of three neighborhoods in the Caribbean port city of Limón have had to put up with some unwanted guests.Nearly 90,000 Limón residents have been affected by a large influx of rats attracted to the neighborhoods of Pacuare Viejo, Pacuare Nuevo and Corales Trés as a result of the accumulation of trash and abandoned garbage cans in front of homes, according to the daily Al Día. The noisy intruders have destroyed roofs, invaded homes and produced a horrible stench. Garbage is collected twice a week in the neighborhoods. The Public Health Ministry will collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture to eliminate the rodents, Al Día reported.
