INBio, Korea Plan Biodiversity Center

Plans to create a Korean-Costa Rican biodiversity center were finalized last month with the signing of an agreement by National Biodiversity Institute (INBio) president Rodrigo Gámez and Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) regional director Weon-Shik Choi, according to statement from the Foreign Ministry.

KOICA donated $1 million to build the center, which will provide a space for the two countries to work together on biodiversity research. INBio will provide the “know-how” while the Korean Bioscience and Biotechnology Research Institute (KRIBB) provides the technology, the statement said.

Scientists from these two countries are expected to work together on projects of mutual interest.
