Number of COVID-19 Cases in Costa Rica For February Decreases

The good news is that the overall number of Covid cases for the month of February in Costa Rica came down, which is always a good sign. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers that came out this week from the ministry of health to make better sense of all this.

A Closer Look at the Numbers

On March 1, the Health Ministry reported 2203 cases were recorded, 10 deaths and 885 people remain hospitalized, 2 in private centers and 883 in the public system, of this total 116 people are hospitalized in the ICU and 769 are in a public room.

In terms of deaths, for the week of February 20-26, 107 deaths were recorded, while from February 13-19, there were 122 deaths recorded. This is a 12.3% reduction in the mortality rate from one week to the next.

Week Number 8:

  • 18,137 new Covid-19 cases from February 20 to February 26
  • A decrease of 6,625 new Covid Cases compared to week 7, (February 13 to February 19)
  • The average number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients in Costa Rica was 961 (the week before it was 986 people)
  • There were 671 new hospital admissions associated with Covid-19, up from 717 the previous week (6.4% decrease)

These totals represent an average of 2591 cases per day and a 26.7% week-over-week decrease.

Breakdown by Age Groups

  • 65.4 % were in the age group of 65 and over with 6 deaths
  • 25.2% in the 50-64 age group
  • 8.4 % in the age group of 18 to 49 years of age
  • 1% for minors.

Grand Total

This brings the total number of deaths in Costa Rica, as of March 1, 2022, that can be directly related to Covid-19 since the pandemic began to 8047!
