Spanish Council Donates Funds For Scientific Research

The Spanish Superior Council of Scientific Research (CSIC) signed an agreement recently with the private Costa Rican-U.S. Foundation (CRUSA) to finance scientific and technological research here.

Martín Martínez, CSIC assistant director, said he is “very satisfied” with the agreement because it will add to the “excellent experiences” the council has already had in Costa Rica through the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and the National Biodiversity Institute (INBio).

“We’re ready to expand our horizons in Costa Rica,” he said.

The agreement is for 200,000 euros (about $260,000), half of which will be provided by the research council and the other half by CRUSA for Costa Rican and Spanish researchers to carry out projects related to science and technology.

Martínez and CRUSA director Hermann Faith signed the agreement together. Faith said the projects financed by these funds will be chosen depending on their quality and the impact they could potentially have.

The agreement is for one year, and both parties expressed interest in extending it if results are positive.
