Latte and Chispa, a Costa Rican story of sloth love

February 14 in Costa Rica is Día del Amor y la Amistad — the Day of Love and Friendship.

More than a romantic holiday, Día del Amor y la Amistad is an opportunity for Costa Ricans to celebrate their love for friends and other meaningful people in their lives.

In that context, we’re sharing this photo of Latte and Chispa, two sloths at Toucan Rescue Ranch. As TRR founder Leslie Howle explained in last week’s story, Latte became a surrogate mother for baby Chispa, who had been orphaned.

Chispa was released back into the wild in June 2019. Although both adults now, Latte and Chispa still have that special friendship and are often seen near each other.

Now that’s a love worth celebrating!
