Bolivia crisis leaves La Sele without player for upcoming matches

The Costa Rica men’s national soccer team will not be able to count on goalkeeper Leonel Moreira, a last-minute replacement for the injured Keylor Navas, due to the crisis in Bolivia.

Moreira, who plays for the Bolivian club Bolívar, won’t be able to respond to the call of his national team because the airports of the South American country are closed due to the crisis unleashed after the resignation of President Evo Morales on Sunday, the Costa Rican Soccer Federation said in a statement.

It added that coach Rónald González has summoned in his place the goalkeeper Bryan Segura, of the local Perez Zeledon, who will join the practices Tuesday.

La Sele is preparing to face Curaçao on Nov. 14 and will host Haiti on the 17th — both duels for the CONCACAF League of Nations.

Navas, the most prominent figure of Costa Rican football, was injured Saturday before Paris Saint-Germain’s match against Brest.

The other Tico goalkeepers are Esteban Alvarado (Herediano) and Adonis Pineda (Alajuelense).
