Pic of the Day: Busy morning at Juan Santamaría International Airport

Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaría International Airport is busier than ever.

The airport, which serves the city of San José and the surrounding Greater Metropolitan Area, has recently expanded with four new gates, a modern domestic terminal and a parallel taxiway.

Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) handles six of every 10 international tourists who arrive in Costa Rica, according to Minister of Tourism María Amalia Revelo.

In 2018, the airport saw a 5.9% increase in arriving passengers compared to 2017.

Costa Rica is on pace for another record year in tourism in 2019. Through June, the country has welcomed 1.73 million visitors, according to the latest data from the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT).
