C.R. Red Cross announces donation totals for Japan

There’s still time to donate, but already the Costa Rican Red Cross is declaring that it has received more than ¢50 million ($100,000) in donations from Ticos looking to aid disaster relief in Japan. Donations close on Sunday.

In two weeks, the Red Cross has received ¢52,286,775.63 ($100,000) through private businesses, collection centers and fundraisers, such as the Ticos por Japón event held in downtown San José on March 20. More than 10,000 people have died since an earthquake and a tsunami ravaged Japan on March 11. For more information on how to donate, contact the Red Cross at 2542-5000 or see www.cruzroja.or.cr.
