Bayer has announced that its Costa Rica-based Shared Services Center will double in size over the coming months.
The multi-national pharmaceutical company said the Shared Services Center, which provides administrative support to the Americas, has begun accepting résumés for the new positions.
The departments with the most openings are Order to Cash, Source to Pay and HR Operations, according to Bayer.
“The growth is not only due to the level of satisfaction of our clients, but also to a corporate strategy of optimization of the processes of administrative support to our business areas through the operational excellence of our shared services centers,” said Klaus Wussow, Bayer’s Financial Manager for Central America and the Caribbean.
Casa Presidencial says 285 people currently work at Bayer’s offices in a zona franca — tax-free zone — in San Francisco de Heredia. That number is expected to surpass 500 by the end of the year.
The expansion includes two new offices, for which Bayer has made a $3 million investment.
In a statement through Casa Presidencial, President Carlos Alvarado said the announcement is “an important signal of the confidence and security Costa Rica offers to foreign investment.”
Alvarado has called reducing Costa Rica’s high unemployment rate one of the biggest challenges facing his administration. Unemployment was 11.3% in the first trimester of 2019, according to the National Statistics and Census Institute (INEC).
Costa Rica has been Bayer’s regional hub since 2008, and the company also operates animal health, pharmaceuticals and crop science divisions here. The Shared Services Center opened two years ago.
“We share this announcement with great pleasure and with great responsibility,” said Dyalá Jiménez, the Minister of Foreign Trade. “We are aware that when companies like these grow, we, as a country, also grow.”
Bayer says competitive applicants should have English fluency in addition to experience in service centers with training in finance, accounting or business administration.
