Navas plays, Real Madrid falls 2-0 in what could be Tico goalkeeper’s final game

Real Madrid closed its season with a 2-0 home defeat to Real Betis on Sunday in what was likely Keylor Navas’s final game with the Spanish club.

Navas, the Costa Rican goalkeeper, received cheers throughout the afternoon from the crowd at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

But he could do little as Real Betis carved through Real Madrid’s defense for a pair of second-half goals, ending his club’s season on a sour note and 19 points behind La Liga winner Barcelona.

Though the club has not officially announced any moves, Navas has reportedly been informed he is not in Real Madrid’s plans after this season.

Navas will leave Madrid with three Champions Leagues and three European Super Cups, among other accolades that include winning the UEFA Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season for 2017-18.

Sunday’s loss likely wasn’t a goodbye for Navas alone. Manager Zinedine Zidane has promised change, which could mean the departures of Gareth Bale, Nacho, Sergio Reguilon, Isco and Marcos Llorente.
