Costa Rican soccer superstar Keylor Navas is staying put.
Despite rumors linking him to the Premier League, the tico goalkeeper has reportedly signed a one-year extension with Spanish club Real Madrid. The new contract runs through June 2021.
The news was first reported Thursday by Spanish press, including the TV show “Jugones” and sport newspaper MARCA.
Navas gained worldwide attention during Costa Rica’s magical run in the 2014 World Cup. He joined Real Madrid that August and has enjoyed a successful career that included being selected as the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season.
But the 32-year-old has seen his playing time diminish since Real Madrid signed Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois last August, fueling rumors Navas was eyeing a starting role elsewhere.
