Puerto Viejo Rundown

OM is the town of Puerto Viejo’s first fully functioning yoga and community center, opened in 2008 by husband and wife team, Alexander and Kristin Ramirez.  Besides offering yoga seven days a week, surf lessons and tours, a boutique hostel and the CariBeans Chocolate Tasting Lounge downstairs, OM is also actively involved in several Community Centric projects in the South Caribbean.

Stop by OM on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. for the CommUNITY Karma Yoga, an optional donation class. All proceeds from this class go towards Puerto Viejo’s Center for Education and Nutrition. All instructors volunteer their time and teach this class in rotation.  Although a donation is not required to join the class, students can feel good knowing that any money they do give will be helping the South Caribbean youth through assisting projects at CEN.

In addition, OM offers a monthly SurfAsana program the first Saturday every month. Meet us from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Pick up and drop off is at OM. This program includes free yoga, surf classes, snacks, beach games and community building for kids between 5 and 13 years old. Additional volunteers are always welcomed and much appreciated!

Lastly, any guests of the OM boutique hostel wishing to get involved in “Karma Yoga” can speak with Kristin or Alexander directly about volunteer placement opportunities in the region. Options will depend on length of stay and area of interest.

Giving back is a great way to get a deeper experience in the community that you are visiting and to deepen your yogic practice. Come visit us, feel the pura vida!
