Costa Rica hosts renowned Coastal Challenge race

This week, Costa Rica’s Southern Zone once more plays host to the Coastal Challenge, the country’s most important trail running contest. This is the 14th edition of the contest, in which more than 110 contestants seek to traverse 236 km of beaches, mountains, and rivers between Playa del Rey in Quepos and Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula.

The Coastal Challenge, which kicked off Feb. 11 and will conclude on Feb. 16, is composed of two runs: “The Expedition Run” and “The Adventure Run.” Participating athletes average 20 to 60 km per day during the competition.

For this edition, athletes from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Colombia and many other countries have gathered in Costa Rica for the unique event.
