Thanksgiving 2017: Where to dine in Costa Rica

On Thanksgiving Eve, we’re happy to share a selection of dinner options awaiting you tomorrow to help you celebrate along with your loved ones. Don’t miss out on these delicious meals on Thursday Nov. 23:

The Sheraton Hotel will serve dinner at the Ivory Bar with various appetizer options such as a mixed salad with citrus, pumpkin seed, sundried tomatoes and olives; vegetable phyllo tart with arugula bouquet; veal and pork country pate with escarole and cranberry compote; and onion and almond cream with prosciutto tuile. After the appetizers, choose from a rosemary maple-glazed salmon with wild rice; scallop and shrimp risotto with spinach and saffron cream; turkey breast stuffed with corn bread, chorizo, pine nuts and dried cranberries and carrot puree; or beef tenderloin with gorgonzola dolce sauce and fig sauce, and brussels sprouts and sage sautéed potatoes.

For dessert, enjoy a delicious traditional pecan tart served with vanilla crème fraiche; pumpkin crème caramel with Vodka fig syrup; apple cranberry and walnut crumble with red wine sauce; or caramel semifreddo with roasted pears and apricot sauce. The Barceló Hotel will offer a special dinner at its Anfora Restaurant, with an epic menu featuring a variety of appetizers, various meats served with accompaniments and dessert. ($45 per person, tax included. Make reservations at 2220-2034 x 715.)

The Hotel Alta will offer a traditional dinner with a spectacular view in Escazú, including Waldorf salad, roast turkey, vegetables and sage served with red cranberry sauce, green beans, sweet potato and mashed potatoes with gravy, and lemon or pumpkin pie for dessert. It includes a glass of wine per person. ($40 plus tax. Reservations at 2282- 5248, by email at info@thealtahotel.com or at this link 6:00 p.m – 8:00 p.m.)

Denny’s, with locations around the Central Valley, will offer a full turkey and dressing dinner, turkey stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce with two side servings of your choice and bread. This can also be served with a cup of wine and pumpkin or pecan pie. (₡15,850 /approximately $25, or ₡10,150/$20 for just the turkey plate.)

As a special menu, Denny’s will be offering a pumpkin cream pancake breakfast that includes two pumpkin pancakes with creamy pumpkin sauce served with two eggs and hash browns and two bacon strips or two sausages (₡6,950 / approximately $13). If you only want dessert, you can ask for a slice of pecan or pumpkin pie (₡4,700 / approximately $9) or an entire pecan or pumpkin pie (₡18,000 / approximately $36).

The final holiday offering is in Quepos, on the Central Pacific coast, at the Marina Pez Vela’s Runaway Grill. This meal by the sea will feature roast turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh vegetables, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. (Reservations recommended at 2519-9095.)
