Increase in rains expected in next two weeks

Normal rainy season conditions are expected to return this week after four days of mostly dry conditions throughout Costa Rica.

Forecasts from the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) say heavy rains in the next two weeks could cause flooding in several areas of the country.

Increased rainfall is expected in the Pacific region, the Central Valley and especially the Caribbean region. Heavy rains already fell last weekend in the Central and South Pacific zones.

The northwesten province of Guanacaste this week will see a decrease in wind speed and increase in rainfall, while heavy rains are expected in the mountainous areas of the northern region.

Cloudy skies in the Central Valley will bring cooler temperatures, and showers will be present mostly in the afternoons.

IMN experts are monitoring a tropical storm currently forming in the Atlantic Ocean, and although preliminary reports indicate it is not expected to affect Costa Rica, they will be submitting regular reports to the National Emergency Commission.

Costa Rica’s rainy season runs from May to November.
