Heredia students receive new computers

Fifty students from the Barrio Socorro School in Santo Domingo de Heredia, north of San José, are recipients of new XO laptop computers thanks to a donation by the Lincoln School and the Quirós Tanzi Foundation.

The donation, presented on Tuesday, is part of a program called “Conectándonos” (Connecting Us), a cooperative agreement between Education Minister Leonardo Garnier and the Quirós Tanzi Foundation, a local NGO. Through the program, which started in February 2012, some 3,000 students from 43 public schools have received computers and technology training.

Located in Barrio Socorro, the Lincoln School joined the Quirós Tanzi Foundation in assisting the local public school by purchasing the computers and helping with training and technical support.

“Today we not only celebrate the donation of 50 computers to our friends at the Barrio Socorro school, but also the fact that we’re coming together as a community to improve education and offer a lifestyle change through innovative opportunities,” Lincoln School Director Robert Rinaldo said.

The XO is a rugged computer that includes a camera, microphone, 3 USB ports, WI-FI connection and easy-to-use software designed by the International Organization “One Laptop per Child.”
