Autopistas del Sol announced Wednesday that starting this month drivers can purchase electronic Quick Pass devices from three new financial institutions: Banco Nacional, BAC San José and Lafise. Autopistas del Sol is the private firm that manages the new highway between San José and the Pacific port of Caldera.
Drivers can also charge their Quick Pass accounts from any of the locations to reduce time spent and exhaust emitted at tollbooths on the Caldera Highway.
Specialized antennas at Caldera Highway tollbooths read and automatically charge the prepaid devices, allowing drivers to avoid stopping to pay every time they pass through a tollbooth.
Since May of 2009, HBSC agencies have been the only businesses to offer Quick Passes. Autopistas del Sol predicts that in future months other institutions will also adopt the system.
