Inter-American Highway Partially Closed This Week

A section of Costa Rica’s Inter-American Highway South will be periodically closed today and tomorrow due to fallen rocks and debris. The Transportation Ministry (MOPT) will close the highway both days from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will remain open in the evenings.

Costa Rica’s Inter-American Highway North will also be closed part of the day Tuesday due to fallen rocks. Beginning at Cambronero, large rocks have fallen and are impeding the flow of traffic in the area. Drivers are encouraged to take Route 3 at Monte del Aguacate and the Caldera Highway, route 27, to circumvent the closed road.

MOPT has not established a timetable for the reopening and will send a crew to assess the status of the highway on Tuesday morning.
