The Red Cross of Costa Rica responded to fewer deaths in 2010 according a report released by the organization.
Of the cases the Red Cross responded to in 2010, 986 people died, compared to 995 in 2009 and 1090 in 2008. The most common cause of death was violence (270), followed by car accidents involving pedestrians (156), and motor vehicle collisions (136), according to figures released on Saturday.
January registered the highest number of deaths at 102, followed by November (95) and February (90). June registered the fewest number, at 70.
In 2010, the Red Cross responded to a total of 1,777 cases involving serious injury, and most were in October and December (201 reported cases). Other months averaged 138.
