Wild puma found in Orotina

A 120-pound puma that made an appearance Sunday in the trees close to a technical school near Orotina, a town just inland from the central Pacific coast, is waiting to be relocated by personnel from the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Telecommunications (MINAET).

The big cat is staying to be observed and evaluated at Turrubari National Park near Orotina, said Christian Bogantes Sánchez an employee of MINAET’s Central Pacific Conservation Area.

On Sunday, firemen, police officers and ministry employees worked through the morning to get the puma out of a tree and transport it to Turrubari.

After being evaluated the puma will be released into an area where it can roam freely in its natural habitat, Bogantes said.
