Rónald Herrera, head of Costa Rica’s La Reforma maximum security prison, will have to attend Alcoholics Anonymous once a week for six months after driving under the influence of alcohol on Oct. 24 and hitting 12 cars in Sabanilla, in east San José. Herrera fled to his house where he was captured by authorities. He also will have to pay for all material damages for the cars.
Herrera had an alcohol level six times the legal limit according to César Quirós, director of Costa Rica’s traffic police. The judge ruled that Herrera has to notify any change of physical address during the next two years. During the same two-year period, his license will be suspended and during the next six months he will have to do 150 hours of community service.
