San José welcomed Puerto Rican superstar Chayanne last night as thousands of fans filled the Estadio Nacional in La Sabana for one of Costa Rica’s most anticipated concerts of 2026. Chayanne, born Elmer Figueroa Arce, delivered a high-energy performance as part of his “Bailemos Otra Vez” tour, reminding the crowd why he remains one of Latin music’s most beloved performers more than four decades into his career.
From the moment the lights dimmed and the first notes rang out across the stadium, the audience erupted. The crowd brought together several generations of fans, from longtime followers who have listened to Chayanne since the 1980s to younger concertgoers who grew up hearing his music at home.
The atmosphere reflected months of anticipation after tickets sold out quickly earlier this year, prompting organizers to open additional seating sections to meet demand. Chayanne moved across the stage with the confidence and precision of a veteran performer. His voice carried through ballads and up tempo songs, while his dancing, long one of the trademarks of his live shows, drew loud cheers throughout the night.
The setlist reached across his catalog, combining romantic ballads with the Latin pop hits that made him a household name across Latin America, the United States and Spain. Songs such as “Torero,” “Provócame” and “Salomé” turned into full-stadium singalongs, while newer material showed that his connection with fans remains strong.
Between songs, Chayanne spoke warmly to the audience in Spanish and expressed affection for Costa Rica and its people. The crowd responded with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for artists who feel familiar across generations. The production matched the size of the event. Large lighting displays, stage effects and a clear sound system helped carry the performance across the stadium, giving fans in every section a full view of the show.
For many in attendance, the concert also carried personal meaning. Some fans came with parents, partners or friends, while others described the night as a long-awaited chance to see an artist whose music has been part of their lives for decades.
Costa Rica has welcomed Chayanne before, but Friday’s concert stood out for the scale of the response and the broad appeal he continues to command. By the time the final encore ended and the stadium lights came back on, the night had become one of our country’s major live music events of the year.
The “Bailemos Otra Vez” tour is scheduled to continue in Europe and the United States through the rest of the year.
