U.S. company Frontier Airlines inaugurated a new route from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Guanacaste Airport. The A320 aircraft landed in the country with 186 passengers greeted with gifts and live music. The flight will depart every Saturday, arriving in Guanacaste at 12:27 a.m. and returning to Atlanta at 1:32 p.m.
“It is great news for the country. It increases the possibility of more tourists coming from the United States to Costa Rica. I am pleased that Frontier has decided to fly from Atlanta to Guanacaste, as it pushes us towards our objectives for next year,” informed the Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica, William Rodriguez.
According to data from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), the United States holds the largest number of tourists interested in traveling to Costa Rica. They visit the country, motivated by their affinity with nature, environmental preservation, and sustainable tourism.
“We are very excited with the start of this route between Guanacaste and Atlanta, a beautiful city that also serves as an important connecting point to many destinations in the United States and beyond,” said Daniel Shurz, Vice President of Commercial for Frontier Airlines.
Frontier began operations at Guanacaste Airport in November 2021. This airline can customize trips for its customers according to their needs and budget. Frontiers airplanes stand out for their tail designs, featuring endangered animals.
“Less than a month ago, we inaugurated flights between Atlanta and San Jose. With this flight, we reaffirm our commitment to increasing the number of tourists to Costa Rica while offering the local community easy and affordable access to the United States,” added Shurz.
César Jaramillo, General Manager of Guanacaste Airport, was delighted with the news as he believes it will tremendously help the tourism sector. “We are celebrating the culmination of a historic year with the opening of Frontier’s new route. We focus on attracting new flights and sharing best practices in route development within VINCI Airports to connect this destination with major markets in the United States, Canada, and Europe. The number of transit passengers – domestic and international – grew 35% in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2019. This confirms that Guanacaste is a destination that many people want to visit,” concluded Jaramillo
