Hotel Punta Islita Receives Two Excellence Awards

Most hotels would be happy to win one award in a single day. But Costa Rica’s Hotel Punta Islita won two in a span of less than 24 hours. The Costa Rican-American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) named Hotel Punta Islita a “Best Hotel” for its work promoting cultural and educational tourism in neighboring communities along the northern Pacific coast.

Grupo Islita Director Carlos Bolaños thanked AMCHAM for “giving an incentive to Costa Rican businesses to create and improve innovative and sustainable projects.”

Shortly after, the hotel won the Responsible Tourism Award for Best Accommodation for Local Communities in recognition of its support of the Islita Art Museum. The award was presented during the World Travel Market World Responsible Tourism Day, held earlier this month in London, England.

New Poker Club Already a Hit

The casino at Hotel Barceló San José Palacio inaugurated a new poker club this month with a $25,000 Texas hold’em tournament that drew a crowd of more than 500 poker fans. More than 200 players signed up to see the flop.

The new card room is hosted by Scott Vineberg, who says he wants the club to become one of the top poker destinations in Latin America. The club will be open every day from 1 p.m. For more information, call 8827-90 or email scott@nolimitcr.com.
