How Can I Help Local Schools?

I was in Granada and Masaya on May 31 for a day tour from Costa Rica. I was saddened by the number of children begging.

I subscribe to The Tico Times /Nica Times and I read the June 8 issue concerning education reform in Nicaragua. My question is: Do you know of any organization, be it church, social, or governmental that I can send contributions for kids to buy their uniforms, books, etc?

Thank you for your attention.

Editor’s Note: La Esperanza, a volunteer organization that works with several underprivileged schools in Granada, is always looking for donations (la_esperanza_granada@yahoo.com), as is the Jean BruggerFoundation in San Juandel Sur (www.piedrasyolas.com).
