Riteve to Testify Before Commission

OFFICIALS from Riteve SyC willtestify Wednesday before a special governmentcommission that is studyingwhether to annul the firm’s controversialgovernment contract to perform mandatorytechnical vehicle inspections in CostaRica, the daily La Nación reported.Public outcry has resulted in concernsRiteve has a monopoly on vehicle inspections,in violation of the Constitution.Riteve officials are expected to addressthese accusations in their testimony, aswell as various other complaints.In August, public protests against theRiteve contract paralyzed parts of thecountry for eight days (TT, Aug. 27, Sept.3, 2004).The commission to study the contractwas created in November (TT, Nov. 12,2004).
