A Guatemalan court has sentenced two former soldiers to 120 and 240 years of prison for subjecting at least 15 indigenous women to sexual slavery and other crimes during the country's civil war.
A criminal complaint alleges impacts on waterways, protected areas and forest cover at a luxury hotel project in Manuel Antonio, including sediment runoff toward Playa La Vaca. The developer disputes the accusations and says it has complied with environmental requirements.
