Magnitude-4.7 earthquake shakes El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR – A magnitude-4.7 earthquake occurred on Tuesday in central and western El Salvador, but there were no reports of casualties or damage, an official source said.

The quake occurred at 12:39 p.m. local time at a focal depth of 51.4 km, and its epicenter was located 70 km south of the city of Santa Tecla, in the central province of La Libertad along the Pacific Ocean, according to a report by the National Service of Territorial Studies.

The quake was felt by residents in La Libertad, La Paz and San Salvador, as well as the western provinces of Sonsonate and Ahuachapán.
