No vehicle restrictions for Holy Week

The Public Works and Transportation Ministry (MOPT) announced this Wednesday that next week drivers can travel freely through the center of San José, since vehicle restriction by license plate number will be suspended for Semana Santa (Holy Week).

The restriction normally prohibits cars from traveling in downtown San José and within the Circunvalación, a belt route around the city.

For heavy trucks (6 or more tons) the situation is different and restriction shall remain in place, even on Easter Sunday, MOPT authorities confirmed.

The penalty for disobeying the vehicle restriction is ¢46,852 (some $90).
