Caja needs blood donors

The National Blood Bank urgently needs donors of all blood types to maintain reserves for routine surgical procedures at Social Security System, or Caja, hospitals.

National Blood Bank Director Erna Meléndez said “current reserves are not enough to handle any massive emergency situation.”

Officials from San José’s Hospital México also asked for public support to help them overcome shortages of A and O blood types, both negative and positive.

Requirements for donors are: aged 18-65, weight of more than 50 kilograms and identification. Doctors say fasting is unnecessary and a light breakfast is recommended.

National Blood Bank facilities are located on the south side of the catholic church in the southeastern district of Zapote, Mon.-Fr., 7 a.m.-2:30p.m. and Sat., 8 a.m.-noon. For more info, call: 2283-3121.

Hospital Mexico’s blood bank is open Mon.Thur., 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Fri. 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sat. 7 a.m.-noon.
