Lawmakers appoint Marta Acosta as new comptroller general

The Legislative Assembly on Monday elected Marta Eugenia Acosta as comptroller general for the next eight years. She was elected with 40 votes of 47 lawmakers in session.

The Comptroller General’s Office’s top spot has been vacant since May 7, when previous Comptroller General Rocío Aguilar’s period ended.

Acosta served previously as assistant comptroller general, a position that now remains vacant. Lawmakers have not yet agreed about who will occupy the post.

Acosta has a master’s degree in public finance management and is a government auditor certified by the Global Institute of Auditors, in the United States.
