To expedite the return of thousands of Ticos who took mid-year vacations this week, vehicles weighing six tons or more will not be allowed to enter San José this weekend, Traffic Police authorities announced in a press release.
The access to San José will be prohibited for vehicles coming from Bernardo Soto and General Cañas highways, which connect the capital with the province of Alajuela.
Restrictions also apply for Braulio Carrillo highway, which connects San José with the Caribbean province of Limón, Florencio del Castillo, between San José and the eastern province of Cartago, and the highway between San José and Heredia.
The fine for violating this restriction is â‚¡46,852 ($93).
