Numbering of San José streets to start in September

Signs with the number of every street and avenue will be placed at the corners and buildings of the capital, San José, starting in September, confirmed San José Mayor Johnny Araya.

The project was proposed four years ago, but it required the approval from the Comptroller General.

“The 16,000 signs to be installed will include the name of the street or avenue … and will also display the logo of the municipality of San José,” Mayor Araya said.

The first stage of the labeling is already scheduled to begin along Paseo Colón in downtown San José. Authorities expect to finish the project within six months.

Identifying the streets will help tourists get around and also be useful for public and private companies, Araya said. Ticos, too, will be able to leave their reference-point system behind, he added.
