Costa Rica fires judge for being serial oversleeper

Your honor, you’re late. Again.

And you’re fired.

A judge in Costa Rica has been sacked for serial tardiness, the daily La Nación reported Monday.

The unnamed 35-year-old judge got the axe from a judicial oversight board.

He repeatedly has offered the excuse that he overslept as an explanation for his tardiness.

“I have constantly received complaints from prosecutors, judges, administrators, technicians and drivers about his poor performance, like arriving at the office late, starting hearings almost an hour late, and absenteeism, and he uses excuses such as oversleeping,” the judge’s boss, Eladio Sanchez, wrote to the board.

The newspaper said the judge, fired in late August, is appealing.
