Two temblors shook the South Pacific of Costa Rica

Two earthquakes with magnitudes greater than 5 were felt in most of Costa Rica on Thursday morning.

The Earthquake Engineering Laboratory at the University of Costa Rica reported the first as a magnitude-5.3 at 11:16 a.m., with an epicenter located 50 kilometers from Savegre, in the South Pacific region. The National Seismological Network (RSN) reported a magnitude of 5.5 and a depth of 10 kilometers.

Four minutes later a magnitude-5.1 was registered 44.1 kilometers from Ballena Bay, also in the south of the country. This earthquake was reported as a magnitude-5.4 by the RSN.

The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica at the National University reported the tremors as magnitude-5.3 and 5.4.

On Monday, a strong magnitude-4.6 quake was felt by many residents of San José’s greater metropolitan area at 12:56 a.m.
