Three temblors recorded Friday in Costa Rica

Three earthquakes of moderate intensity were felt in Costa Rica Friday afternoon and evening.

The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (Ovsicori) registered the first at 1:43 pm with a magnitude of 3.2 degrees and an epicenter located in Los Chiles, north of the province of Alajuela.

The second and stronger, struck at 6:20 pm in the South Pacific, two miles northwest of Golfito, and registered a magnitude of 4.3 degrees.

Finally, a magnitude-3.6, was recorded at 9:32 p. m. with its epicenter located in the North Pacific, 17 kilometers southwest of Sámara, in the province of Guanacaste.

The National Seismological Network of the University of Costa Rica only reported the two temblors at night, both with magnitudes of 4.1.

At the time there are no reports of damage to property or people affected by the earthquakes.

Last September 5 a magnitude-7.6 quake off the coast of the Nicoya Península made the record books as the country’s second-largest of all time.
