Political leaders, business representatives and academics are meeting to discuss several topics on global and regional agendas, economic development and world commerce.

Chinchilla and González will hold meetings with officials from various countries and also will meet businessmen and potential investors.

The president also is scheduled to participate in forums to promote national competitiveness, economic growth, anti-drug abuse strategies and marine conservation.

Costa Rica also will promote the candidacy of González to chair the general directorate of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The General Council of the WTO will meet in Geneva on Jan. 29, when all nine candidates will be presented to country members.
