Low temperatures from a cold front will continue through mid-week

Weekend temperatures were unusually low for the season, registering 12 degrees Celsius (54° F) in the Central Valley, with winds up to 110 kilometers per hour. The cause was a cold front that will last until Wednesday, the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) said.

The cold front entered Costa Rica on Friday and is expected to bring occasional rains at the beginning of the week, especially in mountainous areas and in the Caribbean region, where flooding has already occurred at some of the major rivers in the area.

The IMN forecast that on Tuesday some of the conditions typical of the dry season will begin to reappear, but strong winds will continue throughout the week.

Strong winds have knocked down trees and utility poles, mainly in the greater metropolitan area. The IMN warns people to remain alert.
