Cloudy skies and showers expected this week

A high pressure system from the Caribbean region of Costa Rica that spread over the weekend will cause rain in the southern Caribbean and parts of the Central Valley, the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) said.

Peak gusts reached 85 kilometers per hour in the northwestern province of Guanacaste, while in the Central Valley winds registered up to 75 km/h.

The Caribbean and the northern regions recorded rainfall from 30-50 millimeters in 24 hours. IMN forecasts show cloudy skies are expected in these regions throughout the week, with occasional showers mostly in mountainous areas. The northern and central Pacific regions are expected to be partly cloudy.

The southern Pacific also will have cloudy skies and possible showers, the IMN said.
