New Order’s Peter Hook comes to Costa Rica on Saturday

In another international production this year, Hoxton on Saturday will present the famous former bass player and co-founder of Joy Division and New Order, Peter Hook, in a DJ set at the British retro club located in Los Yoses, east of San José.

The 8 p.m. show features opening sets by local DJs Javier Portilla and Vladimir, plus a visual show by Boreal.

Known as “Hooky,” the 57-year-old musician was co-founder of the band Warsaw in 1976, along with Bernard Sumner. The band soon became the iconic Joy Division, after changes to the original lineup.

Following the death of Joy Division’s lead singer, Ian Curtis, in 1980, the band reformed as New Order and became one of the most successful and influential new wave bands in history. Hook played bass with them until his departure in 2007.

Joy Division also became widely popular and music critics consider their albums to be among the best music ever made.

In 2010, Hook formed a new band, “Peter Hook and The Light,” which currently is on tour playing classic songs from Joy Division and New Order.

Hooky’s DJ set in Costa Rica precedes his final show of the year with The Light in France on Dec. 20.

Saturday’s show joins a growing list of big events this year at Hoxton, including a previous DJ set by Andy Rourke, the former bassist of The Smiths.

Tickets for Peter Hook are on sale for ₡6,000 ($12) exclusively at Lou Store, located on the second floor of Hoxton.
