Caja to offer emergency care only on Holy Thursday, Friday

Health and financial services at all 74 facilities of Costa Rica’s Social Security System, or Caja, will operate normally from March 30 to April 1, the first three days of Holy Week, the agency reported on Wednesday.

On Holy Thursday and Friday (April 2 and 3) only emergency rooms and hospitalization services will be available.

Caja’s Board of Directors asked directors of every health facility in the country to take all measures to ensure that necessary staff will be available to provide health care services during the holy days.

Employers scheduled to submit monthly staff insurance reports next week will be able to do so, but only from Monday to Wednesday, as most of Caja’s administrative departments will work only those three days.

The same applies for Caja insurance holders needing to collect money from sick leave or licenses.

Caja’s administrative officials reminded employers that Holy Thursday and Friday are considered official holidays under Costa Rica’s labor laws, therefore employees required to work during those days must be compensated with appropriate payment or days off.
