Museums close doors during Semana Santa

Those staying in the Central Valley for Semana Santa, or Easter Holy Week, will find any cultural aspirations largely curtailed, as the country’s main museums will be closed for part of all of the week, the daily La Nación reported.

In the capital, the National Museum, Calderón Guardia Museum and Central Bank Museums will operate as usual Monday through Wednesday but will be closed Thursday through Sunday, while the Children’s Museum will be closed on Holy Thursday and Good Friday only. The Costa Rican Art Museum, Contemporary Art and Design Museum and Spanish Cultural Center will be closed for the entire week, as will the Juan Santamaría Museum in Alajuela, the Popular Culture Museum and Alfredo González Culture Center in Heredia, and the Municipal Museum in Cartago.

Museums will resume their usual hours of operation on Monday, April 25. For museum exhibits, activities and locations, see the Calendar in the online or print editions of The Tico Times’ Weekend section.
