Teachers to protest in downtown San José on Thursday morning

Teachers will hold a strike at San José’s Parque Central at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The protest organized by National Association of Educators and other unions hope to compel the government to withdraw the current draft of the bill on tax reform. The bill aims to reduce fiscal deficit by collecting taxes on public spending. The teachers also want to be paid a higher salary and have a clear definition on Costa Rica’s “fair salary” policy.

The strike will move through Avenida 2 toward the Legislative Assembly. Approximately 5,000 people are expected at the demonstration.
