Supreme Court halts “Pamplonada” in Costa Rica

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court (Sala IV) has declared that the Pamplona bull run activity known as “The Pamplonada” goes against dignity, health and the environment.

That was the answer to an appeal brought against the bull run, set to take place in the canton of Belén in Heredia, from April 13-22. Five NGO’s including the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) signed the appeal.  Members of the Constitutional Chamber stated that “human dignity must be…extended to animals.

“The judgment states that the National Animal Health Service did not endorse the event since the organization of “The Pamplonada” failed to ensure the welfare of the animals.

Five judges shared the opinion to ban the event, while two of them abstained from voting.
