Costa Rica launches catalog of premium food products

Costa Rica’s Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER) this week presented the Costa Rica Food Specialties Catalog, a publication that brings together 39 companies from the local food industry and a sample of 57 premium quality products.

The catalog aims to become a promotion tool to show buyers from international markets the high added value of Costa Rican products, and is part of the strategies of the country’s brand, “Essential Costa Rica,” PROCOMER officials said.

The publication includes information on Tico specialty products in six categories: Beverages and Liqueurs; Ready to Eat Meals & Frozen Products; Jams, Marmalades and Fruit Preserves; Pastas; Bakery, Confectionery & Sweeteners; Sauces, Condiments & Canned vegetables; and Snacks.

Each product includes pictures, descriptions, and company information both in Spanish and English.

Members of PROCOMER, the Costa Rican Food Industry Chamber (CACIA), the Chamber of Exporters, the Costa Rican Chamber of Industries, and Lafise Bank formed an interagency committee in charge of making the final selection of the featured products.

In choosing the goods committee members qualified each of the product’s strengths in attributes such as: packaging, exclusiveness, innovative manufacture processes, high quality and Costa Rican origin, among others.

CACIA president José Manuel Hernando said the document will be a useful tool for associates, and he promised that positive results will be evident in the short term.

Print and digital versions of the catalog will be distributed starting this week. Print issues will be sent in coming days to supermarket chains in the U.S., Canada, and other countries in Europe, Asia, South and Central America and the Caribbean.

Digital versions (flipbooks) will be distributed through Costa Rican embassies, consulates and PROCOMER offices in other countries.
