Tickets for Chicago’s iconic Lollapalooza music fest now on sale

Eminem, Skrillex, Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys. Those are four of the six headliners at this year’s Lollapalooza music-fest, a three-day affair from Aug. 1-3 in the Windy City’s Grant Park, according to Chicago music insider Greg Kot.

Kot broke the news last week (and he’s usually right), adding that the rest of the 130 bands scheduled to play on eight stages in downtown Chicago likely would be announced today or tomorrow.

The announcement sparked a lukewarm reaction from many fans, who noted that Eminem already had headlined the fest – now in its 10th year – in 2011. And Kings of Leon?

Nevertheless, by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Early-Bird and Regular three-day passes already had sold out. Three-day VIP and Platinum passes are still available, although the VIP passes, which get you mini-spa treatment, preferential viewing areas and your own bathroom, will run you $1,500 a pop. Platinum passes, which allow access to the bands, are so expensive you have to call Lollapalooza to buy them.

Plenty of single-day passes are available, however, for $100 each. Buy them here.

Kot said Lollapalooza drew 300,000 people last year, and many Costa Ricans made the journey for one of the best summertime festivals in one of the greatest cities in the United States. But let’s hope the rest of the lineup offers something a little more exciting. After all, it is a seven-hour flight.

Here’s the full list. Thanks to Chicagoist.com for actually typing this out.
